6 Digital marketing secrets on how to recruit at will for your network marketing enterprise in Zimbabwe

I think you should also know how I got started in digital marketing. You know my story about how I got started in digital marketing is an exciting one because its not some big strategy play but a humble beginnings one stimulated by a strive to improve sales and to improve one self in a challenging environment. Did you know I do not even have a degree or college qualification ? So how did I get to know about all these things ?

You see everything was initiated by the collapsing of the Zimbabwean economy and my father had to tell me to start my own “thing”. Having being influenced by my father to like entrepreneurship I was attracted to real estate because I thought a commission based employment would be a perfect start.

But the competition there wasn’t kind to a newcomer. You know I was just a school leaver who only knew poem writing. I still have fond memories of my masterpiece Wilderness Wanderer which talked about a beautiful girl searching for true love. So I had no marketing skill at all, and I was eventually fired for poor sales.

I joined another real estate agency. This time I wasn’t fired but the agency owner simply told me the words, “maybe selling real estate isn’t for you” so I left on my own.

Ultimately, I had to answer one question, “How can I improve my sales of real estate?”

Being on death ground my creativity was stimulated and I managed to turn poem writing to property article writing.

At first I distributed the articles by e-mail as PDFs but I realized that to reach a bigger audience I also needed to be on the world wide web.

A generous friend introduced me to a blog and my first blog called Property Matters News was born. Overtime I continued improving and perfecting my knowledge of a blog.

 A turning point  …

The year 2014 was a turning point because I managed to attract a client who would later pay me USD 1 000.00 commission after she read a blog article titled;

 “ Financial consequences of purchasing property from a seriously-ill seller and other purchases to avoid ”.

This article resonated with the lady because she had purchased a Harare house in Msasa from a seriously ill seller. There was an outstanding balance. She decided to clear the balance by selling a piece of land in Madokero.

Later I learnt that writing an article about a seriously ill seller an issue that resonated with a prospect was called lead generation in digital marketing language. This takes us to our first secret – lead generation. 

#1 Lead generation

The reason for lead generation is getting awareness because at this stage customers do not know that you even exist yet! You are basically saying, “ Hey look at me Iam here pay attention to me.”

The are two main digital marketing tools that are used for this and these are social media and search engines .

(a) Social media

Social Platforms By Size

1. Facebook                2.7 Billion active users

2. Whatsapp                1.2 Billion active users

3. LinkedIn                   700 Million active users

In your marketing you need the message to be exposed to as many people as possible and as you can see above these people are on social media. Social media pages, profiles and posts are also good at being found on search engines like Google. On immediately getting people to see your message social media is therefore, second to none.

Social Media Lead Generation Tips To Remember

1. Optimize LinkedIn profile headline

LinkedIn offers you a headline where you can place keywords to get more views when people search for related queries. Make sure you add your niche details so that relevant readers can find and connect to you.

For example if you are an entrepreneurship consultant make sure you write entrepreneurship consultant on your headline to get advantage on searches. 

2.Use big images that cover Facebook feed

Facebook posts that include images get around 120% more engagement than posts with no photos. So make your images prominent and you are going to get lots more likes, shares, comments and click throughs.

Use full sized images in some of your Facebook blog posts updates.

3. Social prospecting

Involves monitoring and / or searching social networks for signs of customer interest, immediate and future buying intent. I use LinkedIn features like Network, Messaging & Notifications to generate leads through social prospecting.

 

4. Brand advocacy

Is when company staff leverage their own social media presence to share positive news, stories and insights about their company with their networks. Employees will be part of a team making blog posts. While some companies gives employees the license to create and promote their own content many companies establish guidelines or even supply appropriate content to employees. The aim is to expose the brand to as much people as possible and to help making it go viral.


(b) Search engines

Search engines are websites like Google and Yahoo that helps internet user to search for information. It therefore, of paramount importance that a website is optimized for search engines into order to have an advantage in lead generation.

A programmer once told me he could improve my blog’s ranking on Google for certain key words. When I asked him to explain how I discovered that his methods were what Google call SEO spam or black hat methods that may involve tricking the search engine into giving you a better search ranking for certain key words. Google has invested millions for combating SEO spam that is why they have developed software programs like Google Penguin. Being penalized by Google is something difficult to fix. You may experience a short term gain but eventually you will loose.

So which are the legitimate ways of improving your ranking on Google Search ? A blog is best.

Making regular “how-to” blog posts attract search engines’ attention because search engines like latest information that provides answers to users.

#2 Pre-qualification Of Leads 

This is all about sizing prospects up for how well they fit with what you have to offer. A lot of sales people often say if I can improve in one area I will want to be a better closer and people always think that there are ways to become more persuasive in closing and more manipulative but the reality is that we fall into the trap of selling to prospects that just don’t really fit with what we have to offer. There are good prospects out there but we waste valuable time talking to bad ones and that time could have been spent finding good prospects.

Why pre-qualification of leads is important ?

1. Time is limited and valuable

You only have 40hrs in the work week there is nothing you can do to add more hours to the week. You can’t work beyond 40hrs but there is only so many hours you can spend interfacing with prospects and every hour every minute spend with a bad prospect is time wasted. To be successful you really want to get the most out of that valuable time.

 

2. Control is limited

You can’t bully a prospect into moving forward and force them to say yes. So you can’t control the prospects that you talk to meaning you can’t make them say yes.

 

 But what you can control are which prospects you talk to meaning you can say “ Iam going to walk away from this prospect.” You can control that and that can be powerful because its amazing if you are able to determine which prospects to walk away from and which prospects to walk towards and spend your valuable time with.

 

Being judicious in this area and having scrutiny and intelligence.

 

So how do you prequalify using digital or online tools ?

 

Use an Opt-in Page

 

What’s an opt in page ? Sometimes it is called a lead capture page, sometimes its called a squeeze page its still the same thing its an opt in page. It’s a page where your website visitors see a promise that says “Hey enter your name and e-mail right here and you are going to get access to this free thing.” A person who exchanges contact details for your free piece of value becomes a lead.

 

#3 Demonstration of value


Demonstration of value is about presenting what you can do for the prospect. It is said you can’t sell to a prospect but you can help them buy by showing them value. You shall need two things to demonstrate value namely (a) a mailing list and (b) three pieces of free content that you distribute.

 

(a) Mailing list

 

This is a pre-qualified list of recipients who have opted in to receiving the value you have promised at the opt in phase. You can use any service provider but I prefer Google Contacts.

The mailing list must be pre-qualified first because;

 

1. Service providers like Google Contacts are very adverse to spam. If there are bed email addresses on your list this will count against you.

2. You will need to make extra money by allowing others promote on your mailing list but this can be possible only if it’s a quality list.

 

(b) Three pieces of free content or value

You share the free content three times in a sequence.

So here is how you do it. To the aforementioned mailing list you send the first e-book as promised on the opt-in page during lead generation. A couple of days later you send a second e-book, a couple of days later you send the third e-book, a couple of days later you finally send what is called a sales e-mail.

These also are a great way for demonstrating value. From experience I can tell you that I have gotten great business from my own free workshop titled Own Boss Entrepreneurship Workshop .

 

Sales visits

You can book a meeting with a prospect and visit them at their place where you demonstrate value. In sales visits and workshops how you are dressed will play an equally good role in the successful demonstration of value.

#4 Closing

Closing is all about your Call To Action (CTA) which clearly expresses how you want your customers to move forward after the customer journey you have been through together and it should be expressed with a sense of agency.

At this juncture you have sent them all three pieces of free content under demonstration of value phase and you now need to close. But how do you close online ?

Well you do this by writing the sales e-mail although this requires copywriting skills these are skills one can learn.

A sales email is where there is nothing to do on that email except to learn about what you are offering and to buy it.

#5 Delivery And Fulfillment

This is all about your product performing as promised. In order for you to get repeat business, referrals or to cross sell your product must perform as promised. It is said delivering quality is the greatest marketing.

#6 Cross Selling

This is an opportunity that comes after closing which helps you to earn more money by selling something additional. Typically its called upselling but its other variations are cross selling and down selling.

The fact that a prospect has bought from you demonstrate their trust therefore you can leverage on this. If you have started by selling a product you can cross sell a MLM business package or if you have started by selling a MLM business package you can cross sell a product.
