# 1 Content marketing

Content marketing is all about the idea that before you charge a price you must first share value. Why ? One – this educate your prospects pertaining your product’s benefits and uniqueness. It is said you can not sell to a person but you can help them buy by showing value. Two – this allows you to pre-emptively answer objections. Always prospects have objections and no matter how persuasive you think you are  people will not buy from you if these objections are not addressed.  There are three types of content namely open content, gated content and premium content.

Open Content

This is content created with the idea of getting at the top spot on Google search results ranking. Technically this idea is called search engine optimization (SEO). Everyone today when they want information on the internet they search for it. If you do your key word search and other SEO technics right open content can be as good as getting a license to print money in terms of increased sales. Open content is called open content because its content that any one can access through the internet without having to satisfy certain conditions like first submitting one’s contact details e.g name, surname, phone. This blog post is an example of open content. So open content is absolutely free.

Gated Content

This is content created with the idea of pre-qualifying leads. In digital marketing wisdom pre-qualification of leads is a cardinal rule and how you get contact details is pivotal in how its executed. It is what makes the difference between poor sales and good sales, profit and loss. Gated content is content that a person access in exchange for contact details. A person who willing exchange his or her contact details for the gated content becomes your lead. Together with such other people they are the only ones who qualify to form a mailing list a gold mine. So gated content is also free except that to access it you must submit your contact details. But other content can be sold. This is premium content.

Premium Content

Premium content is your product that people may be willing to buy after being educated about its benefits through both the open and gated content. It can be a DVD that you ship or a book on Amazon. Sometimes, you may not be selling information products but you will be selling such services like accounting, consultancy, building material, health supplements etc these replace premium content. This means instead of buying a DVD or a book on Amazon they contract your service or buy your physical goods that are delivered through physical means as opposed to virtual ones.

#2 Schedule a morning routine and “block time”

Key digital marketing activities like lead generation and pre-qualification of leads are daily activities. By daily I mean you will be generating leads, prospecting and pre-qualifying leads on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Everyday ! My advice therefore,  is that the best way to approach digital marketing is by blocking time and creating a morning routine.

Block Time ?

Block time means you are serious about this so what you do is you say Iam going to block out this amount of time and nothing can disturb me in that amount of time to create this digital marketing system.  During that time I do not check email, whatsapp etc . Guess what  there are no emergencies in the world except health emergencies the rest are falsely created by people trying to get on your agenda.

Morning Routine ?

As a digital marketer what I do myself is that my block time is in the morning so I wake up at 3am every day and start working. This blog post was created during this time.  I call this the morning routine. The morning routine is important because in the morning until noon you are freshest.  There is nothing else in your life that can’t wait until noon!

#3 Create for customer outcomes ONLY

So when you are creating content for content marketing you are not doing it to be self-congratulating but you are creating with the end in mind. That end is to add value to the prospective customer so that he or she appreciate your product and eventually buy. I suggest that you use a buyer persona when creating content. A buyer persona is a semi fictional representation of your ideal customer. Therefore, it helps you remain focused on the customer in all that you do.

#4 Cross sell related products

This is important because after selling one product to a customer its an opportunity to sell something additional.  Its called cross selling. This helps you make more money by leveraging on the great trust already created.  For example if you are selling laptops you must also stock laptop bags. Your laptop customers will need a bag and they will be more than happy to buy it from you even at a higher price !  This is why mobile network operators in Zimbabwe, South Africa and the world over also sell cell phones to their existing subscribers. This is why the network marketing business also recruit people who buy their health supplements and products.

 #5 Opportunity Cost

After years of struggling, lone nights trying to figure out digital marketing on my own this probably is the biggest success principle I must share with you. Before getting started doing what I have just taught you here you should first ask yourself “What is the cost of this opportunity ?”

What are other things you are giving up in order to pursue this opportunity ?

So let me simplify opportunity cost for you. Let me give an example.  Lets say you are trying to build your digital marketing and you spend a lot of time every day trying to do this.  You continue doing this for year one, year two, year three, year four and year five. You spend five years trying to set up your digital marketing all by yourself struggling and trying to make it happen.

On the other hand what you could have done is hire an expert who could have short-circuited your success path. So that instead of spending five years struggling with it you spend just one year and you get the same level of success. So what is the opportunity cost here for that person who spend five years?

The answer is he has lost those five years trying to struggle, trying to figure this out instead of spending one year plus some money to get the same level of results. So the opportunity cost is he literally lost five years because he did not go and find help to help him in his journey which could have skyrocketed his results. This is crucial my friend !

You see a lot of us are so stuck in our ways of thinking that we do not think of opportunity cost as to how big it is and how powerful it is.  We are only thinking of the immediate cost of something. For example how much you are charged.  Unfortunately, if money is the only way you measure anything then you will always be drowning in negative opportunity cost.  If money is the only thing you measure something you cannot think of long term value of anything.

So it’s a really important idea here.

If you are trying to increase your sales and build a business using digital marketing so that you realize the success you deserve as a hard working entrepreneur you have to value the opportunity cost.  Should you be spending five years of your life trying to figure it out all by yourself or should you hire an expert to help you do it in a year. This is a question you have to answer yourself. If you are interested in skyrocketing your results in a short period of time then you should engage my Outsourced Digital Marketing Services.
